In this video, we focus on the one and only Rolex GMT-Master reference 1675. The GMT-Master has been on the market since 1954. Around that time, transoceanic air travel was becoming more affordable and popular, and Rolex was quick to produce the perfect watch for this lifestyle – the GMT-Master. The company specifically designed this timepiece fort the pilots of the Pan American World Airways “Pan Am.” The original reference, the 6542, displays a second time zone via the rotatable bezel and a colorful GMT hand. However, we’ve chosen to look at the far more famous reference 1675, which first appeared in 1959.
Its popularity is due not only to its long production run of about 30 years but also to prominent wearers, such as the legendary television P.I. Thomas Magnum and the actor Orlando Bloom. Today, models with a patina and faded bezel are particularly coveted among collectors. Like many vintage Rolex models, the GMT-Master also offers countless little details for watch nerds to get excited about. The reference 1675 is not only available with different movements but with also different crown guards, dials, and inscriptions. The rarer the feature, the more sought-after the watch.
